A New Normal

The Global Pandemic caused by Covid 19 has turned the world upside down. And you know what? That’s a really good thing! Every time there has been some sort of world crisis, e.g. the 911 attack on the World Trade Center, we are quickly reminded of our mortality and helplessness. It’s in those times that people are shaken out of their complacency about God. For those who do not have a faith in him, they, often, begin to ask questions and seek eternal truths.

You see, unlike what most of us think, we are not in control of our world and all the bad things that can happen. We can’t control disease from spreading, even with our best efforts to contain and fight against it. There will always be those who ignore common sense and think they are somehow impervious, all the while contributing to its spread. We can’t control the stock market, recessions and job loss. We can’t control weather, tsunamis, tornadoes and earthquakes. The truth is we are completely vulnerable to the world and potential chaos. We are either at the mercy of luck and chance or we will turn to the mercy of a loving God who is in the midst of chaos.

When Covid 19 is no longer a threat, I, for one, do not look forward to life resuming as normal, because normal is a world that is deaf toward God’s voice calling us to listen to Him, to know and to trust Him. What we need is a new normal where people come to know Christ as their Savior and LIFE and where Christians keep Him front and center in their minds and hearts. A new normal is a life fully surrendered to God; a life of loving, giving, caring, forgiving and glorifying Him who is the only one who is in control. A new normal is trusting God no matter what is going on in the world, no matter what our personal circumstances might be, no matter what we are feeling or what we might think. My hope and prayer is for a new normal for me, for us, for the world.
